November has proved to be a wetter month than October, but the cooler Autumn weather is still missing. In fact, as of November 8, the month is running NINE DEGREES warmer than average. If not for the brief cold spell in mid-October that brought widespread frost (and a light freeze), we would still be in the midst of the growing season.
Ridging aloft over the Gulf Coast has shunted disturbances to the north. We will get the trailing cold front, but by the time it gets to Southern Illinois, it's only a subtle cool down. At this point, I don't see that changing through the next two weeks.
The next disturbance that will bring a cold front, and a chance for a few showers, will arrive Wednesday. Rainfall amounts will be low, but once again, there will be a slight cool down.
With the pattern remaining in place for at least the next 7-10 days, temperatures will remain WARMER than average with no risk of frost or freezing temperatures in the near future.
Keep an eye out for a pattern shift, possibly due to a larger more potent system around November 19-20. There are some hints that a bigger system might finally track through the Midwest around that time. With the amount of warm weather and the Gulf of Mexico still being very warm this late in the season, that could spell trouble from severe storms eventually as we begin to transition from Autumn to Winter later this month or even into early December.
